Great show! Brutally hilarious! Hate has a way clearing the air. One criterion that Rob Parker cited for sufficient Blackness that should not be overlooked was whether RGIII or any brother is down for or committed to the cause. Can we understand that as committed to other Black people at the very least? Of course, there’s nothing unusual about a Black male profesional athlete marrying or sleeping white. But we’re not supposed to talk about it in public. Individual human beings falling in love with each other notwithstanding, Black people have the right to ask whether or not one is sleeping with the enemy or an ally. Genuine alliance is possible. Like class suicide, there is race suicide, and it can be revolutionary or reactionary. ESPN ain’t gonna have that kinda conversation! And we do think about what it says to the world about the worth of an African woman or an African man. So we should be able to talk about it. In the field of meaning, meaning emerging from within a white aesthetic saturated environment, how do we and the world read us when we engage in self negating behavior? Also, thank you for mentioning Bet Ysrael, The Ethiopian Jews. Apparently the oldest Jewish communities in the world aren’t Jewish enough. Does that make them Black enough? They’re treated like the rest of us. We know that there are nuance and complexity. Still I agree with the committee: nobody gets a pass for nothing! Parker’ was on target the community has always had a intraracial litmus test to vet and validate people who provided services, representation,politics etc..
We should reject those who seek to silence the utility of ‘blackness’..

Iwant to thank Yusuf, especially for his enlightened view of “Blackness”, and the demand to defend ourselves from All who, by their actions and words, negate what we hold near and dear as we struggle with “that” which IS our collective survival. Around us, the madness of the need for the “assimilationist fantasy” is presented as gospel, and is promised as the “future” for those like me who see it as DEATH.
