On Latin Waves Grassroots Media today we discussed the current crisis of incarceration and political imprisonment. This crisis which bubbles over into what should be major stories like the recent prison strikes in Georgia and California are often ignored by “polite” society and even the “progressive” Left. This is in large part due to class divisions within Black and Latin America and the standard general dismissal of those communities by White Americans of all political stripes. Within that more broadly dismissed topic of mass incarceration is the issue of political imprisonment which suffers an even greater degree of denial even among those who more prominently and generally discuss the prison industrial complex. So in the spirit of Black August it was indeed a pleasure to take part in the program.
