We were joined this week by Debbie Louis, author of the classic And We Are Not Yet Saved: A History of the Movement as People and Kali Akuno, author of, Linking the Struggles: Amilcar Cabral and his impact and legacy in the Black Liberation Movement.  Our discussion covered under-discussed aspects of the civil rights movement in this country and its connection, in this case through Cabral, to international anti-imperial/colonial struggle.

Another instructional program.I always dig hearing from Kali Akuno, and will soon read his report on Cabral. I was hoping Kali or Sister Louis would have directed the audience to Cabrals book “Unity And Struggle”.Another program should be dedicated to Sister Louis statement that King was a construct of Bayard Rustin, that needs to be explained further. Sisters like Louis,Septima Clark,Rosa Parks,Ella Baker,Claudia Jones along with a number of Black Panther women were held back by negro & imperialistic patriarchal chauvinism. The empowerment of Afrikan women are critical to our development as a people.

  3. Thank you Jared for this episode. Your shows are always amazing and provide so much useful information. I can say that listening to your show is always a learning experience and challenges me to do more and read more. In the past you exposed me to “Black Awakening in Capitalist America” and now I have to go get “And We Are Not Yet Saved.” Once again thank you and I appreciate your show!

  4. Hello Jared. Firts of all i want to thank you for the time on Amilcar Cabral. I am from cabo-Verde, i live in portugal and i work with an anti-racist/imperialist group with a Cabralist point of view wich as Kali Akuno referred still very updated.
Unfortunately even in guiné Bissau and Cape-Vert they are trying to erase his legacy but the youth is bringing him back and studying him a lot. I personally study a lot of his texts and his poetry.

Secondly i am reading your book “I Mix what i like” and it is an excellent piece of work with strong references and a brilliant point of view. I m still reading it and i holla at you again at the end.

here i leave you a video with a tribute poem i made to Amilcar Cabral, Nkruma, Thomas Sankara, Steve Biko, Lumumba and the need for they thought and atitude in this new Scrumble for Africa
