This will be the inaugural meeting of an organization
designed to apply community pressure to commercial media outlets
ostensibly "serving" DC's community. Though our mission is to
address concerns of Black residents of the DC metropolitan area
we recognize that this effort is connected to the struggles
of many others. Our goal in part will be to challenge the practices
of local media in the areas of accepting payola, limiting forms
of cultural _expression, and abandoning local investigative
reporting in favor of formatted mainstream "news" piped into
the community resulting in cookie-cutter/homogenous information
most of which is irrelevant and of no help to those engaged
in activist struggle or community work of any kind. We are looking
for those interested in researching the details and hitting
the streets in attempts to highlight these concerns and encourage
change.
You are invited to attend and help shape the
direction of this organization given these expressed goals.
More details will be offered as well in the hopes of making
these concerns more plain and to inspire more community participation.
