A public conversation amongst 9 Black and Latino boys ages 10-17. It was shot in Brooklyn, New York in early April 2012 at the famous House of the Lord Church just days before George Zimmerman was arrested for the fatal shooting. “After Trayvon” brings together these young boys to discuss Trayvon Martin, their own feelings of vulnerability and fear, education, leadership, violence in all forms, history as they understand it, and how they view America, their America. Kevin Powell serves as moderator for the conversation. Directed and produced by Cynical Smith.

Evidence of social training and indoctrination was a bit cringe worthy. With a few parcels of light here and there from the older children. All I could think of was the absurdity of some of the reasoning made for Trayvon Martins death made real by this society. Also Carter.G.Woodson’s book the “Miseducation of the negro” came to mind. The tragedy is a “Black” Boy is treated no differently than a “Black” Man in this society. Parents have to take responsibility to teach their children about the reality of the situation because it’s not learned in school. It also can be fatal if not learned correctly. Most of all we have to stand up as a people and make sure these events are met with more than useless protest and selective outcomes of forced justice. The roadblock is that people are going to have to want change and be willing to work for it (not to be confused with voting for Obama or anyone else for that matter). A great start would be a mass organization that demands community control of police. If they don’t get it no cop or chief of police should be able to go anywhere unaccosted or unhindered (peacefully only when it makes sense). That’s a start, but we need more people to actually care enough about their children’s future to want to pay more than lip service to the cause. The lack of role models discussed is a direct result of the lack of more people being willing to take a stand. The government murders our brightest leaders, simply because they know that;
1. We invest religiously in the messianic perceptions of leadership. Brought on by various dogmas.
2. Fear of death can breed cowards in the face of people who are not serious.
3. Its worked before when they were intellectually defeated.
4. People jump into movements and action without understanding the problem. So when the head of articulation is severed the body becomes confused and withers (this shouldn’t be viewed as a reason to sit in a class room for the next 20 years).
I’m sure anyone could add to this but I’ll end by saying, “Only we will solve our problems no one will solve anything for us.”(It’s as simple as that).
Wow! I’m the father of a three year-old black boy, We have a world to win for ourselves and babies. Thanks brother Jared for posting this video.
So glad this was posted. Just have to re-post David’s comments:

This needs to be Aired instead of all the crap the Medai Lies to us aboutvia the Media…
These are boys in NYC. I wonder what their thoughts are on the Ramarley Graham case. Since NY doesn’t have a “stand your ground” law as such on the books, what happened to young Mr. Graham in the Bronx is a much more likely possibility for these boys.
