We had the pleasure this week of being joined by sisters, scholars and activists Michelle and Leslie Alexander. Each were kind enough to support our pledge-drive by offering their powerfully relevant and related books as thank-you-gifts and to discuss with us the histories they describe in them. We’ve edited this “redux” in order to offer our online listeners a chance to hear them – minus much of the pledge pitching – discuss their works and how the particular history of African America has been marked by a continuing classification of Blackness as criminal and deserving the worst forms of identity shift and “social control.”*
