We were invited to host this talk on our forthcoming book, A Lie of Reinvention: Correcting Manning Marable’s Malcolm X, at this month’s Wisdom Wednesday Forum, a lecture series hosted by Dr. Anthony Browder IKG Cultural Resource Center. Part one is an overview of the book and a summary of contributor research and Part Two is the Q&A.

“Obama could not exist at the same time as a living, breathing Malcolm X or a Martin Luther King Jr.” -Dr. Anthony Browder, near the end of this talk.
If the murder of Malcolm X can’t kill his ideas then the character assassination of Malcolm X is obviously the next logical step. What better way to do that than have a “respectable” black man, like Manning Marable do the job and then have the white press give accolades. For me, the name Marable now has become synonymous with sell-out. Seems there are plenty of takers for Judas-jobs these days…
Thank God the IKG Cultural Resource Center had the guts to start this important discussion, and I’m glad I listened to it.
Hopefully, very soon, the censored chapters of Malcolm X’s autobiography will be made available to the public -unbelievable that they’re still being withheld. ‘They’ must really feel threatened by Malcolm X to go through all this trouble to assassinate his character like this, after so many years since his murder.
The abyss, into which some glory-seeking, shameless cretins will sink,is definitely unfathomable. Marable falls into a special category (one who jumped at the opportunity to besmirch the name of a dead and defenseless person). He uses ‘sources’ which are available to no one else. There is no shortage of Marables in this world. Such scum is carefully chosen to tarnish the image of icons of the oppressed. Lest we forget, there were European Jews who accompanied the SS and identified homes of other Jews……. traitors are a disgusting reality.
Thanks Kathleen, but just to be clear, it was me speaking, not Browder. He and his org host these events, this was just my turn to present there.
I am impelled to take, what will be considered, a negative position on this topic.
The book is published; the author has passed.
Thus, he cannot defend his actions with respect to the book. Granted, a healthy intellectual discussion, or debate should be generated about the flaws in the book; however, an on-going diatribe about same is expending energy that should be utilized for addressing the needs, wants and aspirations of poor, working class people.
Black scholars expend too much time, and energy on subjects that only they, or people of like-minds will entertain anyway.
Therefore, be it Afro-centrism, Pan-Africanism, Black Studies, Egyptian studies, or Malcolm X, the fact remains that only a certain percentage of Black people will respond, and as I stated above, they will be of the same mind-set. Finally, Black-on-Black crime, poverty, illiteracy, fatherless children, drugs, incarceration, and the like should be passionately, and systematically addressed more visibly by the so-called Black intelligentsia.
Peace
