Hundreds gathered November 7, 2009 in Washington, D.C.’s historic Malcolm X Park to acknowledge the launching of the Black Is Back Coalition. Increasing frustration with a decades long, and worsening, decline in organized progressive politics prompted the formation of the coalition, this initial public statement and march to the White House. Under the banners of “Social Justice, Peace and Reparations,” “Out of Afghanistan,” “Liberation for Palestine,” and “No More War!” dozens of activists and artists raised their voices and all can be heard in the following four segments which we’ve collected from the Uhuru Radio re-broadcast. Speakers includes Pam Africa, Glen Ford, Head-Roc, Lawrence Hamm, Curtis Gatewood, Omali Yeshitela, Precise Science, Nellie Bailey, and many others.

I thought Nellie Bailey & Pam Africa “knocked it out the park” figuratively speaking. Although with respect to Pam Africa I probably would have used a better choice of words,ie…profanity, I could definitely understand her sense of frustration with the current conditions. In any event I hope this is only the genesis in the re-birth of Black people here in America. I salute all of the organizers & participants!
