Even during our pledge drive we squeezed in this gem of an interview with Dr. Houston Baker, Jr. about his powerful book Betrayal: How Black Intellectuals Have Abandoned the Ideals of the Civil Rights Era. In this “redux” we discussed his views on the ways leading Black intellectuals such as Michael Eric Dyson, Cornel West, John McWhorter and others are “traitors” to the tradition exemplified in the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Preparation for this interview was the impetus behind reposting our own exchange on the subject with Dr. Dyson but it is the work of Baker and others that deserves the kind of attention refused in most media.
This was the first of our two weeks in pledge drive so those hearing this should feel free to pledge online or call in during our show next Monday May 18th, 2009 (1-3p EST) and show their support then. We made more than our goal this week (many thanks folks!) and need a repeat performance next week.
